Book a cab from your airport, railway station or city to Nilakkal (the base camp) or Pamba. Sabarimala temple is not directly reachable by road: motor vehicles go only up to Pamba at most, which is about 5 km from the temple, and the final climb is on foot. In recent seasons vehicles are usually stopped at Nilakkal, about 20 km before Pamba, and pilgrims continue by KSRTC chain buses. Our rates start from ₹10/km, and one-way drops are available on many routes.

Best Road Routes to Sabarimala

Pilgrims travelling by road reach Pamba and Nilakkal through three main approaches. Our drivers choose the route that suits your pickup point and the traffic situation on the day.

Chalakkayam / Nilakkal Route (Pathanamthitta side)

The easiest and most used route for pilgrims coming from Chengannur, Thiruvalla, Pathanamthitta, Kochi and Trivandrum. It leads to Nilakkal and then Pamba, and Pamba is the main halting point before the climb to the temple.

Erumely Route (Kottayam side)

Pilgrims from Ernakulam and Kottayam commonly travel via Vaikom, Ettumanoor, Kottayam, Kanjirappally and Erumely, about 165 km from Ernakulam. Erumely is the starting point of the traditional forest pilgrimage and has the Erumely Sree Dharma Sastha Temple.

Vandiperiyar / Kumily Route (Tamil Nadu side)

Pilgrims from Madurai, Theni and Cumbum usually travel through Kumily and Vandiperiyar and join the Nilakkal–Pamba road. Pilgrims coming from Shencottah in Tamil Nadu can also reach via Punalur and Ranni.

Travelling from Other States

For pilgrims coming from outside Kerala (Mangalore, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi), the most convenient railway stop is generally Kottayam, followed by Thiruvalla and Chengannur. Book a Chiku Cab on arrival so the driver is waiting at the station exit.

Taxi Services We Offer for Sabarimala

Airport Taxi to Sabarimala (Kochi and Trivandrum)

There is no operational airport at Sabarimala itself. Pilgrims fly into Cochin International Airport or Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. Our driver meets you at arrivals and drives you straight to Nilakkal or Pamba. For the return, we can drop you back at the airport in time for your flight. See our airport transfer cabs.

Railway Station Pickup – Chengannur, Kottayam, Thiruvalla

Chengannur, Thiruvalla and Kottayam are the closest railway stations, each roughly 90 km from Sabarimala. Book a cab on arrival so you can start your journey without waiting for buses. Also see railway station pick and drop taxi.

One-Way Taxi to Sabarimala

Travelling only one side? Our one-way cabs let you pay just for the drop on supported routes, which is ideal for devotees returning by train or flight from a different city.

Pamba and Nilakkal Local Taxi

For travel around Pathanamthitta, Nilakkal, Pamba, Erumely and nearby temples, book an hourly local cab (4 hrs/40 km, 8 hrs/80 km or 12 hrs/120 km packages). Tell us if you want the driver to wait while you complete darshan.

Outstation Cab from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra

Pilgrims from Madurai, Coimbatore, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad can book a full outstation cab with an experienced driver. Browse our outstation cabs or book from Madurai, Coimbatore, Chennai, Bangalore or Hyderabad.

Innova Crysta and Tempo Traveller for Ayyappa Groups

Travelling with family or a devotee group? Choose Innova on rent, Ertiga, or a Tempo Traveller. For larger groups see mini bus on rent.

Sabarimala Season 2026-27: Dates, Darshan Booking and Timings

Sabarimala is not open all year. The temple opens for the long Mandala-Makaravilakku season, for the first few days of every Malayalam month (monthly poojas) and for special festivals such as Vishu and Onam. The dates below are based on current reports. Please confirm the final schedule with the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) before you finalise your travel.

Event Expected date
Mandala season begins 17 November 2026
Mandala Pooja (end of the 41-day Mandalam) 27 December 2026
Temple reopens for Makaravilakku 30 December 2026
Makaravilakku (Makara Sankranti) 14 January 2027
Season closes around 20 January 2027

Darshan Booking (Virtual Queue)

The TDB's online Virtual-Q system at sabarimalaonline.org is the official way to book a darshan slot, and reports say it is mandatory for pilgrims. A limited number of spot booking slots is also opened at times. Please book only through the official TDB channel and carry your booking and photo ID. Chiku Cab provides the taxi only, and we do not book darshan slots.

Darshan Timings

In the 2025 season, daily darshan ran from about 3 AM to 1 PM and from 3 PM to 11 PM. Timings can change on festival days, so check the latest notice from the TDB before travel.

Best Time to Book Your Cab

Cabs fill up fast in mid-November to mid-January, and especially around Mandala Pooja and Makaravilakku. Book at least 7–10 days ahead for these dates, and earlier for large groups.

Nilakkal and Pamba: How Taxis Work for Sabarimala

Understanding the last stretch helps you plan your pickup and return time properly.

  • Nilakkal is the base camp: In recent seasons private and hired vehicles are generally stopped at Nilakkal, around 20 km before Pamba, and pilgrims continue to Pamba by KSRTC Nilakkal–Pamba chain buses.
  • Roadside parking is not allowed: Parking along the road from Nilakkal to Pamba is prohibited as per High Court directions. Vehicles are parked in designated parking grounds near Nilakkal, and a parking fee is collected there.
  • Traffic regulation in peak rush: When vehicle movement towards Nilakkal is regulated, police may hold vehicles and release them in batches, and alternate parking such as Kanamala on the Erumely route may be used.
  • Pamba drop: In some seasons small vehicles were permitted to drop pilgrims at Pamba and return to Nilakkal to park. This depends on the police orders for that season, and your driver will confirm the position on the day.
  • The last 5 km: From Pamba, pilgrims bathe in the Pamba river, offer prayers at the Pamba Ganapathy Temple and climb the Neelimala hill on foot to the temple.

Because queue time at the Sannidhanam can range from a few hours to much longer on peak days, please share your expected return time with the driver in advance and keep your phone charged so pickup can be coordinated smoothly.

Sample Sabarimala Taxi Trip Plans

From Kochi Airport or Ernakulam

Our driver picks you up at the airport or your hotel and drives to Nilakkal through the Kottayam and Erumely or Pathanamthitta route (about 150–165 km). Take the KSRTC chain bus to Pamba, bathe in the river, climb to the temple for darshan, then return to Nilakkal where the cab is waiting for the drive back to Kochi.

From Chengannur, Thiruvalla or Kottayam Railway Station

The shortest option for pilgrims arriving by train. Take the cab from the station directly to Nilakkal (about 85–100 km), complete darshan and return to the station for your onward train.

From Trivandrum Airport

Book a pickup at the airport and drive to Nilakkal (about 170–180 km). Many pilgrims plan an overnight stay near Pathanamthitta or Pamba side and return the next day.

Group from Tamil Nadu (Madurai, Theni, Coimbatore)

Travel by Innova Crysta or Tempo Traveller via Kumily and Vandiperiyar to Nilakkal. Groups usually prefer a full outstation package with driver stay so everyone travels together on one vehicle.
