Welcome to Chardham yatra

Chardham consists of the four most sacred places of worship which one must complete at least once in their lifetime according to Hinduism.

The places of worship in Chardham include Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. In the 8th Century, sage Adi Shankaracharya, brought together these four places of pilgrimage to form a unique pattern which we as of today call the Chardham Yatra.

When Is The Best Time To Visit Chardham?

Every year, the Government of Uttarakhand declares the dates of opening and closure of the Chardham Yatra. The usual months of the Chardham Tour Package are from April to November. Even during these months, all the devotees have to fight the harsh climate to reach the temples and get blessings.

During the winter months from December to March, the idols from each of these temples are shifted to their winter temple, namely, Ukhimath for Kedarnath, Joshimath for Badrinath, Mukhba for Gangotri, and Kharsali for Yamunotri.

Please see to it that before you finalize your dates for the Chardham Yatra Family Package you cross-check and verify the dates with the dates declared by the Government.

Temples Of Importance in the Chardham Yatra

Kedarnath : Situated at an elevation of 11,700 feet, the nearest road towards Kedarnath is Gaurikund which is at a distance of 12 kilometers. The stone idol in Kedarnath has a mythological story of the Pandavas erecting this stone as a measure of forgiveness from Lord Shiva. Kedarnath is a scenic place to be in wherein the temple is surrounded by the Himalayas, apple orchards, and lush green valleys. It is a magnificent sight to watch.

Badrinath : From Kedarnath, you can travel to Badrinath with the help of the Chardham taxi service. This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The Badrinath temple is considered to be one of the easiest temples to reach in the Chardham Yatra. At the base of the temple, there are naturally formed hot spring wells with water as hot as 40 degrees in total contrast to the temperature of the surroundings which is almost freezing. The Badrinath temple of today was rebuilt in the 16th century by the Emperor of Garhwal giving it a slightly Buddhist stupa touch.

Gangotri : The River Ganges is considered to be the topmost holy river in India. The start of this river is called the Gangotri shrine. It is at a height of 10,200 feet from sea level and the water is always in a gushing mode. Due to soil erosion and other environmental factors, the glacier of Gangotri has changed its location. This shrine in Chardham can be reached with the help of the Chardham yatra taxi service.

Yamunotri : Hiking for roughly about five kilometers from a small village called Janki Chatti, the Yamunotri temple was built in the 19th century. Visiting this temple completes the Chardham Yatra, and thus securing a place in heaven for the Hindus. It is located at an altitude of 10,800 feet above sea level and a lot of hot spring water wells are seen here. Boiled potatoes are served as blessings here.
