Pitru Paksha, Shradh, or Sharad is performed every year for the departed ancestors in remembrance and to honor them. It is a 15-day ritual starting on 7th September 2025, Sunday, and ending on 21st September. The last day of Sharad is called Sarva Pitru Amavasya<\/strong> or Mahalaya Amavasya, <\/strong>as per the renowned website, Pitrupaksha Explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During Shradh 2025<\/strong>, the date falls on lunar tithi, or Purnima Shradh, which starts on 7 September and precedes Pratipada on 8 September and ends in Sarva Pitru Amavasya on 21 September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This puja ritual begins with Tarpan,<\/strong> or offering water and sesame seeds to departed ancestors by the sons. If you are someone who wants to practice the Tarpan without doing it every year, offer Pinda Daan along with <\/strong>Brahmin offerings and charity for their ancestors’ moksha, or liberation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
