Haridwar Kumbh 2027 begins with the Makar Sankranti bath on 14 January 2027 and closes with Chaitra Purnima on 20 April 2027. For 97 days, all 13 akharas camp along the Ganga. Har Ki Pauri fills with saffron flags, conch calls and the smell of wet marigolds. The Haridwar Kumbh 2027 Amrit Snan dates fall on 6 March, 8 March and 14 April. By the calendar it’s an Ardh Kumbh, yet CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has promised Purna Kumbh scale. Mela Officer Sonika expects up to 20 crore devotees. Book a reliable Haridwar taxi service for a comfortable Kumbh Mela journey.
This year carries extra weight. The last Haridwar Kumbh, in 2021, shrank to 30 days because of COVID. 2027 brings back the full calendar, the first Amrit Snan at Haridwar under its new name, a ₹194 crore rebuild of Har Ki Pauri and nearby ghats, and the new Delhi-Dehradun Expressway with a spur into Haridwar.
With crowds this size, it’d save you a lot of trouble to plan early. Snan dates, ghats open to the public, road and rail routes, parking rules, stay options and safety arrangements are the details that decide how your trip goes.

Haridwar Kumbh 2027 Dates and Key Details
The 13 akharas of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad fixed the Haridwar Kumbh Mela 2027 dates with CM Dhami at Damkothi, Haridwar, on 28 November 2025. Mela Officer Sonika Singh confirmed the same schedule on 14 April 2026, and it hasn’t changed since.
Work on the ground is well ahead. Bridges, roads and ghat projects are close to completion. Officials have divided the mela area into 32 sectors for crowd control, security and disaster response. An AI-based control room will flag sudden crowd build-up and traffic pressure as it happens.
Kumbh or Ardh Kumbh: How the 2027 Mela Is Named
Haridwar hosts a Purna Kumbh every 12 years, when Jupiter enters Aquarius (Kumbh rashi) and the Sun enters Aries. The last one took place in 2021, so 2027 is the Haridwar Ardh Kumbh by the six-year cycle. Uttarakhand still calls it “Kumbh 2027” and has planned it at full Kumbh scale. You’ll see both names in news reports and official notices.
Haridwar Kumbh 2027 Amrit Snan Dates
Amrit Snan mornings are the heart of the Kumbh. The akharas walk in procession to Brahma Kund and bathe in a fixed order, and the ghat opens to the public once they finish.
| Amrit Snan | Date | Day | Occasion |
| First | 6 March 2027 | Saturday | Mahashivratri |
| Second | 8 March 2027 | Monday | Phalguna Amavasya (Somvati Amavasya) |
| Third | 14 April 2027 | Wednesday | Mesh Sankranti and Baisakhi |
Amrit Snan and Shahi Snan
Mahashivratri Amrit Snan and Phalguna Amavasya snan fall 48 hours apart. If you can stay in Haridwar between 5 and 8 March, you’ll cover both in one trip and skip a second drive on peak-traffic days.
Until 2021, Haridwar called this ritual the Shahi Snan. “Shahi” is an Urdu word for royal, and the term took hold in the 19th century. Before the 2025 Prayagraj Maha Kumbh, the name changed to Amrit Snan, after the Sanskrit word for nectar. Haridwar will hear the new name at its own ghats for the first time in 2027.
Full Haridwar Kumbh 2027 Bathing Schedule
The Haridwar Kumbh 2027 bathing schedule has 10 snan days. Every date is open to the public, though Har Ki Pauri stays reserved for the akharas during Amrit Snan hours.

| 4 | 20 Feb 2027 | Saturday | Magh Purnima | Major snan |
| 5 | 6 Mar 2027 | Saturday | Mahashivratri | Amrit Snan |
| 6 | 8 Mar 2027 | Monday | Phalguna Amavasya | Amrit Snan |
| 7 | 7 Apr 2027 | Wednesday | Nav Samvatsar | Major snan |
| 8 | 14 Apr 2027 | Wednesday | Mesh Sankranti | Amrit Snan |
| 9 | 15 Apr 2027 | Thursday | Ram Navami | Major snan |
| 10 | 20 Apr 2027 | Tuesday | Chaitra Purnima | Major snan (last day) |
Three of these dates land on a Saturday: 6 February, 20 February and 6 March. Weekend snans pull in more day travellers from Delhi NCR, so we’d suggest leaving Delhi before 4 am on these days.

Month-Wise Kumbh Mela Snan Dates: January to April 2027
January 2027: One Snan, Cold Water
Makar Sankranti on 14 January opens the Kumbh. Night temperatures in Haridwar average 6.4°C in January, and morning fog can slow traffic on NH334. Our drivers keep extra time in hand on January trips for this reason.
February 2027: Three Snans in Two Weeks
Mauni Amavasya (6 February), Basant Panchami (11 February) and Magh Purnima (20 February) all fall within 15 days. Of the three, Mauni Amavasya brings the heaviest crowd, as many devotees keep a vow of silence until their dip. February is also the wettest of the four months, with 65 mm of rain on average.
March 2027: The First Two Amrit Snans
March carries Mahashivratri on 6 March and Phalguna Amavasya on 8 March. Days warm up to 28.5°C while nights stay at 12.6°C. Room rates near Har Ki Pauri climb sharply this week, so we’d suggest booking your stay well in advance.
April 2027: Four Dates and the Last Bath
April packs four snan days into two weeks: Nav Samvatsar (7 April), Mesh Sankranti (14 April), Ram Navami (15 April) and Chaitra Purnima (20 April). Mesh Sankranti shares its date with Baisakhi, which brings large groups from Punjab and Haryana. In 2010, Haridwar recorded 1.10 crore visitors across these two festival days. The last bathing date of Haridwar Kumbh 2027 is 20 April, and afternoons touch 35°C by then.
Amrit Snan at Har Ki Pauri: Rituals and Akharas
Har Ki Pauri means “the feet of Hari”. Brahma Kund, its inner bathing spot, is where drops of amrit fell from the pitcher Garuda carried after the Samudra Manthan. King Vikramaditya is said to have built the ghat in the 1st century BC for his brother Bharthari, who meditated on this bank.
The ghat you’ll see today took shape after the 1819 Kumbh, when a crush on a narrow passage killed 430 people. Colonial authorities widened it to 100 feet and added 60 steps. Later extensions came in 1938 and 1986. Locals still name the 1938 clock tower as the meeting point. For 2027, a ₹66.77 crore project is rebuilding over 6 hectares of the ghat with new walkways, drainage and lighting.
How the Kumbh Bathing Dates Are Decided
Kumbh dates follow planetary positions. Haridwar’s Kumbh comes when Jupiter is in Aquarius and the Sun moves into Aries. That’s why Mesh Sankranti, the day the Sun enters Aries, is the main bath. Within that window, the akharas pick the Amrit Snan days, and the state announces them.
The Akhara Procession on Amrit Snan Mornings
In 2021, police closed Har Ki Pauri to the public from 7 am on each Shahi Snan. Niranjani Akhara entered first with Anand Akhara, and Juna followed with the Agni, Awahan and Kinnar akharas. Seers walked barefoot to the water while helicopters dropped flower petals on behalf of the state. The Akhara Parishad will set the 2027 order, and we expect a similar reserved window.
| Akhara group | Count | Akharas |
| Shaiva (Sanyasi) | 7 | Juna, Niranjani, Mahanirvani, Atal, Anand, Awahan, Agni |
| Vaishnava (Bairagi) | 3 | Nirmohi Ani, Digambar Ani, Nirvani Ani |
| Udasin and Nirmal | 3 | Bada Udasin, Naya Udasin, Nirmal |
Haridwar Kumbh 2027 Ghats When Har Ki Pauri Is Reserved
Public bathing carries on at other ghats while the akharas hold Brahma Kund. Haridwar used 15 ghats for public snan during the 2016 Ardh Kumbh, and the 2027 plan adds more.
- Subhash Ghat and Gau Ghat are a short walk from Har Ki Pauri.
- The state is expanding Kangra Ghat for 2027.
- On the Uttar Har Ki Pauri side, Pantdweep and Chamgadad Tapu are getting a ₹68.97 crore makeover with crowd management areas.
- Rodibelwala covers 45 hectares, with new parking, vending zones and toilets.
- If you’re staying in Kankhal, Sati Ghat and Daksheshwar Ghat are quieter options.
Ganga Aarti Timings at Har Ki Pauri
The evening Ganga Aarti at Brahma Kund lasts up to 45 minutes. Brass lamps swing over the water, bells ring from the temples on the ghat, and leaf diyas float downstream once the aarti ends.
| Season | Morning aarti | Evening aarti |
| Winter | 6:30 am | 5:00 to 5:30 pm |
| Summer | 5:00 to 6:50 am | 5:30 to 7:00 pm |
Timings move with sunset, so we’d suggest confirming at the ghat on the day.
How to Plan Your Haridwar Kumbh 2027 Trip
Your Kumbh trip depends on the snan date, how you reach Haridwar, and where you sleep. Fix the date first, as transport and rooms get tight in the days before each Amrit Snan.
Reaching Haridwar by Road from Delhi, Chandigarh and Punjab
| Starting city | Route | Distance |
| Delhi | NH334 via Panipat, Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee | [247] km |
| Delhi | Delhi-Dehradun Expressway from Akshardham, then the Saharanpur-Roorkee-Haridwar spur to Bahadarabad | |
| Chandigarh | Via Yamunanagar, Saharanpur and Roorkee | [185] km, 4 hrs |
| Ludhiana | Via Ambala, Yamunanagar and Saharanpur | |
| Amritsar | Via Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Ambala | [440] km, 8 hrs |
The new expressway opened on 14 April 2026. Its 50.7 km Haridwar spur ends at Bahadarabad, on the city’s western ring road.
On snan days, private vehicles can’t reach the ghats. Police send cars to outer parking areas such as Rodibelwala and Khadda, and shuttle buses carry you closer to the river. In 2021, 262 shuttle buses worked a single Shahi Snan day. The 2027 plan follows the same model. Our drivers know these diversion points well, so you don’t lose time circling closed roads.
We provide one-way and round-trip cabs from Delhi, Chandigarh and Punjab, along with tempo traveller in Haridwar for families and groups.
| Vehicle | Seats | Fare starts from |
| Sedan | 4 | ₹10/km |
| Ertiga | 6 | ₹15/km |
| Innova Crysta | 6 | ₹18/km |
| Tempo Traveller | 9, 12, 15, 16, 18 or 20 | ₹19/km |
Tolls, parking and state tax are extra. Round trips carry a 250 km per day minimum, and you can choose the vehicle as per your group size.
Train and Air Options for Kumbh 2027
Haridwar Junction is the main rail entry, and the Railways are adding capacity for the Kumbh.
- A new Platform 10 is coming up, and Platforms 2 and 3 are being extended for 24-coach trains.
- The station’s holding area will seat up to 20,000 passengers, with drinking water, toilets and separate ticket counters.
- Major trains will also stop at Jwalapur, Laksar, Rishikesh and Motichur to spread the crowd.
- New services include the Bandra-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Garib Rath, extended to Haridwar, and AC trains from Veraval and Okha.
- Inside the station, colour-coded zones will separate passengers for Delhi, Ambala, Saharanpur and Moradabad.
Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is [45] km from Haridwar, and Haridwar Junction is [distance] km from Har Ki Pauri. We provide airport transfers and station pickups, so you won’t need to bargain with autos outside the station on a snan morning.
Accommodation Near Har Ki Pauri
Rooms close to the ghats go first. We’d suggest booking a refundable hotel 6 to 9 months ahead. Tent camps, ashrams and dharamshalas open bookings closer to the date, so plan those 60 to 90 days before your trip.
- Har Ki Pauri and Upper Road put you within walking distance of Brahma Kund, so they sell out first.
- For quieter lanes with ashrams and dharamshalas, look at Kankhal, Bhupatwala and Motichur.
- Jwalapur and the railway station area have more rooms and easier availability.
- Rishikesh, 25 km upstream, is a good fallback base, and we can arrange a cab for daily trips to the ghats.
GMVN, the state tourism body, manages guest houses in Haridwar that you can book online. We’d steer clear of agents who promise guaranteed rooms near Har Ki Pauri, ask for full payment upfront, or want money in a personal bank account.
Nearby Temples to Add Between Snan Days
Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi stand on hills across the river from each other. Udan Khatola operates ropeways to both temples, and a bus links the two.
| Ropeway | Details |
| Mansa Devi timings | 5:00 am to 6:00 pm |
| Chandi Devi timings | 7:00 am to 6:00 pm |
| Combo ticket (both ropeways and bus) | ₹349 per adult, ₹195 per child aged 2 to 4 |
Closer to the ghats, you can add Maya Devi Temple, Bharat Mata Mandir and Daksh Mahadev in Kankhal. Our 8 hrs/80 km local package starts from ₹[1,900] and covers these temples in a day, with time left for the evening aarti.
Haridwar Kumbh 2027 Bathing Safety Guidelines
Crowds on snan days build before dawn, and police move people in and out of the ghats in batches. In 2021, they followed a “Teen Dubki, Ek Snan” rule: three dips, then you leave the steps for the next group.
For 2027, the state is placing lifeguards, safety ropes and motor boats at every ghat. Boat and bike ambulances will cover the mela area, and pink toilets with changing rooms are planned for women.
Here’s what we tell our passengers before a snan day:
- Try to hold the chains at the ghat edge, as the current at Brahma Kund is faster than it looks.
- Pick a fixed meeting point, such as the clock tower, before your group splits up.
- Every child and elderly member should carry a photo ID and a written contact number.
- In January and February, the water is cold enough to cramp muscles, so keep your dips short.
- Mobile networks slow down at peak hours. Agree on a time to meet back at the parking.
- If someone gets separated, the nearest lost-and-found camp (Bhule Bhatke Shivir) is the first place to go.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is Haridwar Kumbh Mela?
Haridwar Kumbh Mela is a Hindu pilgrimage on the banks of the Ganga, where saints, akharas and lakhs of devotees gather for holy bathing, puja and satsang. The 2027 edition is officially an Ardh Kumbh, but the Uttarakhand government is organising it on the scale of a Purna Kumbh, and it will run for four months from January to April.
What is the significance of Amrit Snan?
Amrit Snan is the most auspicious holy dip of the Kumbh. Devotees believe that on these dates, the planetary positions make the Ganga water as pure as amrit, and a dip washes away sins and brings you closer to moksha. The akharas bathe first on these days, which makes them the high point of the mela.
Why is Haridwar important for Kumbh Mela?
As per the Samudra Manthan legend, drops of amrit fell at four places on earth while the devas and asuras fought over the Kumbh, and Haridwar is one of them, along with Prayag, Ujjain and Nashik. Haridwar is also where the Ganga leaves the Himalayas and enters the plains, which is why it is called Gangadwar.
Difference between Amrit Snan and Shahi Snan?
Both names refer to the same royal bath the akharas take on the main bathing dates. The name Shahi Snan was changed to Amrit Snan during the 2025 Maha Kumbh, as saints wanted a term rooted in Sanatan tradition. The ritual itself stays the same.
Why do devotees take a holy dip in the Ganga?
Hindus revere the Ganga as a goddess who came down from heaven to purify humankind. You take a dip in her waters to cleanse your sins, honour your ancestors and seek blessings, and devotees believe the punya of this dip multiplies during Kumbh.
How are Kumbh Mela bathing dates decided?
The Haridwar Kumbh follows Vedic astrology. It falls when Jupiter (Guru) is in Kumbh rashi and the Sun enters Mesha rashi. The exact snan dates come from the Hindu panchang, and for 2027, they were finalised in a meeting of acharyas and saints from all 13 akharas before the mela administration announced them.
What is the religious importance of Har Ki Pauri?
Har Ki Pauri means “the steps of Hari” (Lord Vishnu). Devotees believe its Brahmakund is the exact spot where amrit fell, and a stone here is revered as Vishnu’s footprint. That’s why the akharas take their Amrit Snan at this ghat, and the Ganga aarti here draws devotees every evening of the year.
What happens during an Amrit Snan?
The akharas walk to Har Ki Pauri in grand processions with flags, chariots, drums and conch shells. Naga sadhus lead the way, followed by mahamandaleshwars and other saints, and each akhara bathes in a sequence and time slot the administration fixes beforehand. Once the akharas finish, the ghats open for general devotees.
What is the role of akharas during Kumbh Mela?
Akharas are monastic orders of sadhus from the Sanyasi, Bairagi, Udasin and Nirmal traditions. They lead the Amrit Snans, run camps for discourses and bhandaras, and carry forward centuries-old customs. In 2027, akharas will perform the Amrit Snan during an Ardh Kumbh for the first time.
What is the difference between Kumbh and Ardh Kumbh?
Purna Kumbh takes place every 12 years at each of the four sites, Haridwar, Prayagraj, Ujjain and Nashik. Ardh Kumbh means “half Kumbh” and is held every six years, at Haridwar and Prayagraj only.
What are the important festivals during Haridwar Kumbh 2027?
The mela has 10 bathing festivals: Makar Sankranti (January 14), Mauni Amavasya (February 6), Basant Panchami (February 11), Magh Purnima (February 20), Mahashivratri (March 6), Phalguna Amavasya (March 8), Nav Samvatsar (April 7), Mesh Sankranti (April 14), a bath on April 15, and Chaitra Purnima (April 20). Of these, March 6, March 8 and April 14 are the Amrit Snans.
What should pilgrims know before visiting Haridwar Kumbh?
Note the snan dates, book your stay early, and check traffic diversions and vehicle restrictions for the days you plan to visit. The administration is building large parking areas at the city’s entry points, with transport from there to the mela area, so plan for the last leg on shuttles or on foot. Carry a valid ID for every member of your group.
What is the best time to visit Haridwar during Kumbh?
If you want to see the akhara processions, visit on the Amrit Snan dates: March 6, March 8 or April 14. For a quieter dip, pick a weekday between the main snan dates, such as late January or the gap between February 20 and March 6. January and February are cold in the mornings, while April is warmer.
How can pilgrims check official Kumbh Mela updates?
The state government launched the official Kumbh 2027 website, https://haridwarkumbh.uk.gov.in, on October 12, 2026, to share authentic mela information with devotees. You can also follow the Haridwar district administration and Uttarakhand Police on their official channels for traffic and crowd advisories.
What precautions should visitors take on bathing days?
Bathe only at designated ghats, hold the safety chains, and stay within the barricaded area. Keep a slip with your name and phone number in your children’s and elderly members’ pockets, carry minimal valuables, and follow the instructions of police and volunteers. Note where the nearest khoya-paya (lost and found) centre and medical camp are.
How can visitors prepare for crowded bathing ghats?
Reach the ghat before sunrise, travel light, and wear footwear you can slip off and on quickly. Fix a meeting point with your group in case you get separated, and keep drinking water with you. Never push or rush in the crowd, and step aside if someone in your group feels unwell.
What travel facilities should pilgrims check before departure?
Check your train or bus reservations, and see whether Indian Railways has announced Kumbh special trains on your route. Confirm your hotel or dharamshala booking, the parking zone for your vehicle, road diversions, and the locations of medical camps and help desks near your ghat.
Where can visitors find the official Haridwar Kumbh schedule?
The official website, https://haridwarkumbh.uk.gov.in, is the main source for verified Kumbh information. The mela administration also publishes snan date updates through official press releases.
